General Information

  • How to Participate

SIAM requests that individuals limit themselves to giving one talk. (This does not apply to invited plenary speakers). The co-chairs of the organizing committee may make exceptions to this request. A poster may be presented in addition to a talk, provided the talk and the poster are on different topics. All submissions are subject to review and final approval by the co-chairs.

You are invited to contribute a presentation in one of the formats listed below. Please note that you must commit to either an in-person presentation during the in-person event from July 8-12, 2024 or a virtual presentation during the online event from July 18-20, 2024. No format changes will be allowed.

All minisymposium, contributed talk, and poster presenters are required to register. Speakers giving virtual presentations during the online event will pay the same registration fee as those giving presentations during the in-person event.

  • Acceptance Notification

Authors will be notified by email in April 2024.

  • Speaker Cancellation

The Organizing Committee expects every speaker in a scheduled presentation to register and attend.

If it becomes necessary for a speaker to cancel a presentation, they should try to find an alternate presenter immediately, preferably a co-author. See SIAM Policy on Substitute Speakers and Remote Presentations. Contact SIAM at meetings@siam.org immediately with any change to a scheduled presentation.

A “no-show” or cancelled presentation can cause serious inconvenience to the attendees and organizers. The committee thanks all speakers in advance for their compliance to this request.

Submission Formats

Minisymposia

A minisymposium generally consists of four 25-minute presentations, with an additional five minutes for discussion after each presentation. To ensure balance, SIAM prefers a single individual not be the organizer or co-organizer of more than one minisymposium; however, organizers can submit up to three (3) parts per minisymposium, allowing up to twelve (12) speakers. In addition, SIAM discourages minisymposia in which most of the speakers or co-authors come from the same institution.

A minisymposium comprised of multiple parts (up to 3) will be counted as a SINGLE minisymposium.

SIAM also requests speakers submit only one oral presentation, either a minisymposium presentation or contributed lecture. Minisymposium session organizers and individual speakers are equally responsible for ensuring participants adhere to the one talk per person rule.

It is recommended the first speaker provide an overview of the topic area. Each minisymposium speaker should submit an abstract no longer than 1,500 characters, including spaces. The organizing committee will referee minisymposium proposals. The number of minisymposia may be limited to retain an acceptable level of parallelism in sessions.

Please visit the Guidelines for Preparing a Minisymposium Proposal.

SIAM requires minisymposium organizers propose sessions with a minimum of three (3) confirmed speakers by the minisymposium submission deadline. Sessions submitted with a majority of speakers listed as “TBD/TBA,” or using placeholders, risk immediate rejection.

Prospective minisymposium organizers must submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces), a list of speakers, and presentation titles using the Conference Management System.

Deadline for submission of minisymposium proposals: DEADLINE EXTENDED February 15, 2024 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Deadline for submission of minisymposium speaker abstracts: DEADLINE EXTENDED February 15, 2024 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)

Virtual Minisymposia

A virtual minisymposia may be pre-recorded and available on the virtual platform on demand or it may be a livestreamed session on the virtual platform. Submission of a virtual minisymposia: All livestream sessions will be recorded and available for viewing on demand on the platform. Organizers must indicate which format the minisymposia they are organizing will be. All minisymposia guidelines for an in-person minisymposia also apply to a virtual minisymposia (please see minisymposia guidelines above).

Prospective virtual minisymposium organizers must submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces), a list of speakers, and presentation titles using the Conference Management System.

Poster Minisymposia (Minisymposteria)

A minisymposium of posters (that is, a minisymposterium) consists of a collection of three or more posters by different presenters grouped around a central theme. The posters will be co-located in the poster viewing area.

To submit a Minisymposterium, organizers and poster participants must coordinate and do the following:

  1. Participants must submit their posters by DEADLINE using the Conference Management System (CMS): http://meetings.siam.org/start.cfm?CONFCODE=AN24. The poster title should be submitted as “Minisymposterium: [insert poster title]”.
  2. After the posters are submitted to the CMS, Organizers must send an email to meetings@siam.org using the subject line "AN24 Minisymposterium – [insert minisymposterium title]." The email must include:
    • Organizer name, affiliation, email address
    • A short title for the minisymposterium
    • A short description of the minisymposterium (less than 1500 characters, including spaces)
    • Poster titles and presenters first name, last name, and affiliation for each poster scheduled within the minisymposterium
