What does it mean that AN25 will have an “online component”?
A minisymposium of posters (minisymposterium) consists of a collection of three or more posters by different presenters grouped around a central theme. The posters will be placed next to each other in a poster session.
From July 28 to August 1, 2025, we will meet in person in Montréal, Québec, Canada for the Third Joint SIAM/CAIMS Annual Meetings (AN25), including an outstanding lineup of plenary and prize talks, industry talks and panels, minitutorials, several receptions, Student Days programming, the Workshop Celebrating Diversity, the Association for Women in Mathematics workshop, professional development opportunities, and the latest research from the applied and industrial math communities presented in minisymposia, contributed sessions, and poster sessions. Attendees in Montréal will also have the opportunity to participate in several jointly held conferences: the SIAM Conference on Applied and Computational Discrete Algorithms (ACDA25), the SIAM Conference on Computational Geometric Design (GD25), and the SIAM Conference on Control and Its Applications (CT25).
Over the same days, a limited virtual component will be offered to give those not able to join us in Montréal an opportunity to present their research in online-only sessions and to enjoy plenary talks, prize talks, and panels livestreamed from the main lecture hall in Montréal. The online-only formats available will include minisymposia and contributed talks and will be scheduled in the early mornings and late afternoons to minimize conflict with events taking place onsite in Montréal. Online-only participants will register at a special rate which does not include onsite participatation in Montréal; however, in-person registrants will have access to the online events. Events that are either online or streamed will be available on demand to all AN25 registrants after the conference ends, for a limited time.
Why is SIAM offering an online component of AN25?
SIAM continues to lead by example in offering conference formats that are innovative and accessible to mathematicians and practitioners around the world. We have listened to the clear priorities expressed by our membership that we explore ways to welcome more participants from outreach member countries and to decrease the environmental footprint of our conferences, all while maintaining the opportunities to network and celebrate community that make SIAM conferences so special.
SIAM also recognizes that extraordinary circumstances can sometimes prevent speakers from being able to travel to a conference in person. The online component will allow those individuals the opportunity to present their work at AN25.
How does this differ from the online component at AN24?
The 2024 SIAM Annual Meeting (AN24) included an online component that was held the week following the conference, at which invited and prize speakers were welcomed back for short live Q&A sessions following the scheduled streaming of their talks recorded in person in Spokane. We adopted this model to better accommodate a variety of time zones and to ease the burden on SIAM staff of having the in-person and online components run simultaneously. This year we are holding both components over the same days to maximize the sense of connection between the two components, with all participants, both in-person and online, enjoying the invited plenary talks, prize talks, and panels held in the main lecture hall simultaneously.
AN24 adopted a single registration fee for the entire conference, both in-person and online. AN25 will instead offer a separate, reduced online-only fee to reflect that those registrants will not have access to all of the sessions held in person in Montréal.
If I’m not interested in the online component, how will my in-person experience be affected?
If you are planning to attend the in-person component of AN25 in Montréal from July 28 to August 1, you will enjoy all the excellent programming you have come to expect from the SIAM and CAIMS Annual Meetings. Your registration fee will include access to the online component should you choose to watch online-only sessions or talks you may have missed in person; however, you can also simply enjoy the in-person event just as you have in previous years.
If I want to organize or participate in an in-person or online session, what do I need to do?
A dedicated submission portal to present in the online component of AN25 is available – submit now. Even if you have already been accepted to give a talk in person in Montréal, you may also give a talk in the online component. Please make sure to check the deadlines for submitting to the online component. Submissions for presenting in-person are closed.
Will the 2025 SIAM Conference on Applied and Computational Discrete Algorithms (ACDA25), the 2025 SIAM Conference on Computational Geometric Design (GD25), and the SIAM Conference on Control and Its Applications (CT25) also be part of the online component?
No. Only the Third Joint SIAM/CAIMS Annual Meetings (AN25) will have an online component. However, presenters or attendees of ACDA25, GD25, and CT25 are welcome to submit work to AN25 for presentation during the online component. In-person registration for ACDA25, GD25, and CT25 also include access to all online content.
How have the registration fees been set?
In-person registration fees for AN25 have been set and approved by the SIAM Board of Trustees using the same principles as prior in-person-only SIAM Annual Meetings, primarily to cover the cost of the conference. The online-only registration fees have been set to cover the additional cost incurred by the online platform required to host the online component and the additional audio-visual costs associated with streaming from the main lecture hall.
What is the “Non-member + Join” registration rate?
Non-members can now bundle their conference registration with an 18-month SIAM membership (beginning July 1, 2025 and ending December 31, 2026) at no additional cost. During registration, select the Full Conference Registration rate with membership included, and you will have a SIAM membership processed as part of your registration.
I still have questions! What do I do?
