General Information

  • How to Participate

SIAM requests that individuals limit themselves to giving one talk. (This does not apply to invited plenary speakers). The co-chairs of the organizing committee may make exceptions to this request, but are unlikely to do so except in extremely special circumstances. All submissions are subject to review and final approval by the co-chairs and organizing committee.

You are invited to contribute a presentation in one of the formats listed below.

Minisymposia

A minisymposium generally consists of four 25-minute presentations, with an additional five minutes for discussion after each presentation. To ensure balance, SIAM prefers a single individual not be the organizer or co-organizer of more than one minisymposium. Minisymposia with multiple sessions are not being solicited for this conference; minisymposia are limited to a single, one (1) part session with up to four (4) speakers. In addition, SIAM discourages minisymposia in which most of the speakers or co-authors come from the same institution.

Multi-session minisymposia will not be allowed; any additional presentations associated with the minisymposium must be submitted as associated posters (see below).

SIAM also requests speakers submit only one oral minisymposium presentation. Minisymposium session organizers and individual speakers are equally responsible for ensuring participants adhere to the one talk per person rule.

It is recommended the first speaker provide an overview of the topic area. Each minisymposium speaker should submit an abstract no longer than 1,500 characters, including spaces. The organizing committee will referee minisymposium proposals. The number of minisymposia may be limited to retain an acceptable level of parallelism in sessions.

Please visit the Guidelines for Preparing a Minisymposium Proposal.

SIAM requires minisymposium organizers propose a single session with a minimum of three (3) confirmed speakers by the minisymposium submission deadline. Sessions submitted with a majority of speakers listed as “TBD/TBA,” or using placeholders, risk immediate rejection. Minisymposium organizers are expected to have updated their minisymposium abstracts to include a reference to at least four (4) associated posters by the abstract deadline given below. Failure to reference at least four (4) posters at the bottom of the minisymposium description risks rejection of your minisymposium.”

Prospective minisymposium organizers must submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces), a list of speakers, and presentation titles using the Conference Management System.

In addition, it is required that each minisymposium organizer coordinate with speakers and collaborators to submit at least four (4) associated posters per minisymposium. The associated posters can be authored either by the minisymposium speakers or by other authors invited by the minisymposium organizers to present work on the same or related topics. All posters associated with a minisymposium must be referenced at the end of the minisymposium abstract using the following text: “Associated Poster: (ENTER POSTER TITLE)”. The poster must be submitted as a contributed poster by following the instructions below.

Deadline for submission of minisymposium proposals: DEADLINE EXTENDED April 29, 2024 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)
Deadline for submission of minisymposium speaker abstracts: April 29, 2024 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)

Poster Minisymposia (Minisymposteria)

A minisymposium of posters (that is, a minisymposterium) consists of a collection of three or more posters by different presenters grouped around a central theme. The posters will be placed next to each other in a poster session.

Prospective minisymposterium organizers must submit using the the minisymposterium title, description (not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces), list of poster presenters and poster titles to the Conference Management System under “Propose Minisymposterium.”

Deadline for submission of minisymposterium poster abstracts: April 29, 2024 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)

Contributed Presentations in Poster Format

Contributed presentations in poster format are invited in all areas consistent with the themes.

Contributed lectures are not being solicited for this conference; if a contributed lecture is submitted, it will be converted to a contributed poster.

A poster format involves the use of non-electronic visual aids for mounting on a 4’ x 8’ poster board. A poster session is two hours long. Each poster contributor must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces.

A poster associated with a minisymposium talk may be on the same topic as the minisymposium talk. If they are not related, a poster may still be presented in addition to a minisymposium talk, provided the talk and the poster are on different topics.

Please submit contributed presentations in poster format using the Conference Management System.

If your poster is associated with a Minisymposium, please ensure the Minisymposium organizers reference the title of your poster at the bottom of the associated minisymposium talk abstract (see Minisymposium section).

Deadline for submission of contributed poster abstracts: April 29, 2024 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)

Poster Lightning Talks

The goal of lightning talks is to articulate a poster topic in a quick, insightful, and clear manner. These concise and efficient talks are intended to gain the attention of the audience, communicate key information, and allow for several presenters to share their ideas in a brief period of time.

After the April 29, 2024, abstract deadline poster presenters will be contacted to submit their posters for lightning talk consideration by a specific deadline. If accepted, poster presenters will submit a brief video to be compiled and played in an appropriate setting, such as before invited plenary talks or looped on monitors onsite, as time permits.

Minitutorial and Alternative Sessions

The co-chairs are soliciting proposals for minitutorials and alternative sessions that do not fit the standard 4-talk minisymposium. They are intended to allow a wider variety of contributions at the conference. Click here to learn more and submit a minitutorial or special session proposal.

Deadline for submission of minitutorial and alternative session proposals:  DEADLINE EXTENDED to April 29, 2024 (11:59 p.m. Eastern Time)

Subject Classification Codes

The co-chairs encourage all session organizers and presenters to give careful thought to the classification codes. In the event that you do not find preloaded codes appropriate to your session or presentation, the co-chairs have provided a list of keywords to consider entering in the “Optional Keyword” text box provided, if appropriate.
