Section Purpose

Since its formation in 2016, the SIAM Pacific Northwest Section has aimed to bring together the different communities of the Pacific Northwest that are active in industrial and applied mathematics. Its goals are to enhance communication among its members, to promote collaboration for both basic research and applications of mathematics to industry and science, and to support the SIAM mission in the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S. and Canada.

Activities

The section holds a biennial section meeting as well as a variety of seminars and workshops. The section hopes to foster additional activity, while providing a more formal framework for some of the existing activities, and an expanding network for communication and collaboration for SIAM members in the Pacific Northwest. In addition, the section helps to encourage the creation of new SIAM student chapters and the interaction between different student chapters. The Pacific Northwest is home not only to much applied mathematics, but also to industries and labs that rely extensively on applied and industrial mathematics.
