SIAM Activity Group on Applied and Computational Discrete Algorithms Early Career Prize

Established in 2020, the prize is awarded every two years to an early career researcher for recent contributions in the field of applied and computational discrete algorithms.

Prize Description

The SIAM Activity Group on Applied and Computational Discrete Algorithms Early Career Prize (SIAG/ACDA Early Career Prize) is awarded every two years to an outstanding early career researcher in the field of Applied and Computational Discrete Algorithms (ACDA) for distinguished contributions to the field in the six calendar years prior to the award year.

Eligibility Criteria

The award recognizes an individual who has made outstanding, influential, and potentially long-lasting contributions to the field of ACDA within six years of receiving the Ph.D. or equivalent degree as of January 1 of the award year. At least one of the papers containing this work must be published in English in a peer-reviewed journal or conference proceedings. The committee may consider exceptions to the six-year rule, for career interruptions or delays occurring, e.g., for child-bearing, child-rearing, or elder care. The recipient must be a member of the SIAG/ACDA at the time of their nomination; the nominator need not be a member of SIAG/ACDA. The award can be received only once in a lifetime.

For the 2027 award, the candidate must have been awarded their Ph.D. no earlier than 2021.

Required Materials

  • Nominator’s letter of recommendation for candidate
  • CV of the candidate
  • Bibliographic citation for candidate’s key contributing paper
  • Two or three letters of support from experts in the field

About the Award

The award will consist of a certificate containing the citation. As part of the award, the recipient will be invited to give a brief talk at the SIAM Conference on ACDA. SIAM will make travel funds available to reimburse the recipient for reasonable travel expenses incurred in attending the award ceremony and giving the talk.
