Fellows
Eligibility
Eligibility for Nominees
- Any current regular member of SIAM who has been a regular member of SIAM for at least seven of the past ten years (84 of the past 120 months, not necessarily consecutive) is eligible to be nominated to be a SIAM Fellow. For these purposes, a regular member is defined as a non-student, dues-paying member.
- Retired former SIAM members are eligible for nomination if they had been a regular member of SIAM for seven of the ten years prior to their retirement.
- A nominee is expected to have been a member of the profession for at least 15 years. In most cases, this will be interpreted to mean 15 years from PhD.
- SIAM Presidents will automatically become fellows upon election, if they are not fellows already.
- Members of the SIAM Major Awards Committee may not be nominated to be SIAM Fellows while in office.
Eligibility of Nominators
- Current non-student members may nominate up to two colleagues per year for fellow. This limit does not include nominations from prior years.
- Members of the Major Awards Committee and Fellows Selection Committee are not eligible to serve as nominators.
Eligibility for Letter Writers
- Letters of recommendation can be written by non-members.
- Members of the Major Awards Committee and Fellows Selection Committee are not eligible to contribute letters of recommendation.
- A nominator cannot contribute letters of recommendation for his or her nominee. The letter of nomination is intended to be from the three nominators.
- There is no yearly limit on the number of letters of recommendation one may contribute.
