A Message from SIAM’s Executive Director, Suzanne L. Weekes
As we approach the end of the year, I am very proud of what we have accomplished together at SIAM. By raising funds to support student initiatives, establish new prizes, and launch new programs, we are able to serve SIAM’s mission to advance the mathematical, computational, and data sciences. I encourage all members to donate to SIAM, if you haven’t done so already. With your support we can continue our important work and expand our reach.
In 2022, gifts from SIAM community members have directly contributed to:
- The establishment of the Renata Babuška Prize and the Jerald L. Ericksen Prize
- Supporting graduate students at the Graduate Student Math Modeling Camp and the Mathematical Problems in Industry Workshop via the James Crowley Fund for Student Support
- Providing 200+ travel grants for students and early career researchers to attend SIAM conferences
- Supporting student chapters and geographic sections nationwide
Philanthropic support allows us to expand our reach, enhance connections in our community, and support applied mathematicians and computational and data scientists at every stage of their career. It feels good to have a direct hand in making a difference. Thank you to our donors for their continued commitment to our most pressing initiatives.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank and acknowledge Susanne C. Brenner (Louisiana State University) for two years of leadership and service as SIAM President, and to welcome Sven Leyffer (Argonne National Laboratory) who will begin his term as SIAM President on January 1.
Thank you again for your commitment to SIAM and your ongoing dedication to improving opportunities for applied mathematicians and computational and data scientists. I wish you and your loved ones a happy holiday season and New Year!
