Announcing SIAM’s Virtual Resume-building Workshop
This page will be continuously updated as more information becomes available.
Whether applying for graduate school, seeking a summer internship, pursuing that first post-graduation position, or contemplating a job or career switch, the application process is often daunting and unclear. Given these universal challenges, the SIAM Career Opportunities Committee is hosting a virtual resume-building workshop to help students, postdoctoral researchers, junior scientists, and even late-career professionals prepare for the current job market. The workshop will also guide participants as they get ready for career opportunity events and upcoming SIAM career fairs, including (i) the Fall 2024 Career Fair on Wednesday, October 23, at the 2024 SIAM Conference on Mathematics of Data Science, and (ii) the Spring 2025 Career Fair on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the 2025 SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering.
The resume-building workshop will provide one-on-one mentoring that focuses on resumes, CVs, and cover letters. Anyone who wishes to receive individual mentoring can sign up for a time slot and complete a questionnaire a month in advance; based on their responses, they will then be paired with a mentor who will review and comment on their application materials during the workshop. Assigned mentors will have firsthand experience in the mentee’s target field of work: academia, government, laboratory, or industry.
This webpage will be continuously updated as dates are finalized and registration links for various events become available. The timeline and relevant resources are listed below.
