Welcome to the New SIAM Website
We are excited to share the new SIAM website (www.siam.org) with you! After gathering extensive member feedback on our previous website, we engaged with a marketing agency specializing in websites of professional societies. Their team did a comprehensive audit of SIAM’s various online entities, including the main website (www.siam.org), e-business (my.siam.org), Publications Library (epubs.siam.org), and SIAM News. The result of this work was a dynamic restructuring and redesign of www.siam.org. The goals of this project were to improve site security, performance, search engine optimization (SEO), and overall usability and value for the community. Read on to learn more about the updates and improvements! Please note: we will continue to finetune and clean up the website during the months ahead; we appreciate your patience as we do this.
Migrating SIAM News into www.siam.org
If you are familiar with SIAM programs and services, you are likely no stranger to the multiple websites we have. In an effort to consolidate our many websites, make news articles easier to find, and reach more readers, we have brought the SIAM News website under www.siam.org. The migration of SIAM News articles to our new website is ongoing. Please contact sinews@siam.org with any questions or concerns.
Improved Site Performance
You may have noticed that some pages on our website take longer than a few seconds to load, and other performance issues. By significantly updating the technology on which our website is built, in particular moving to a new content management system (CMS), you should expect a smoother experience with the site overall, especially when it comes to page load times. With the help of our new CMS, we will also be more compliant with accessibility standards, making it easier for page readers and search engines to decipher our content.
Simplifying Look and Restructure of Menus
We have updated our colors, fonts, icons, and other elements to refresh the look of our website and have restructured the menu so our community and new users of our website can more easily find what they are looking for. We have also added a new section – Get Involved – for those who may be new to our site or SIAM and want to learn more about how they can participate in the applied mathematics, computational science, and data science community.
New Sections of the Website
You will notice a few brand-new pages on the website! We have created pages such as Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity; Industry Initiatives; and Science Policy to provide our community with valuable content and ways to get involved in these strategic areas of focus. We have also created a filterable grid that features all our various communities (pictured below) to allow users to more easily connect with any activity group, geographic section, student chapter, or committee based on topic or location. While we have several new pages, we are maintaining our archive.siam.org site so that members can continue to access information about conferences prior to 2018.
